Promise The Sky

Aboard New Coventry, a generation ship heading for the promise of a new planet, Gaia 2, seventeen-year-old Dyvah Bellingtier is beginning the most important test of her final year of school, and maybe her life. The Repros - short for the Reproduction Examination - is a multi-part test that determines whether or not a young person will be permitted to marry and start a family. Dyvah knows it’s what her parents want - what everybody seems to want - but she isn’t entirely sure it’s what she wants.

What Dyvah wants - or rather, who she wants - is Rey, a strong, confident girl from the ‘Shallows,’ but it’s complicated by the fact that as twelfth years, both Dyvah and Rey are taking the Repros. Should they succeed, a further relationship with each other will become impossible.

To make things more confusing, Dyvah is coming to realize that not everything on New Coventry is as fair as it seems. Some people - those living in the exclusive ‘Heights’ - are thriving, while those living in the ‘Shallows’ face a much grimmer reality. Dyvah will need the help of friends from every social strata, including the ship’s AI, if she hopes to change anything for the next generation.
